About
Kandis Capri was a 35 year old transgender woman, who was taking classes at South Mountain Community College in Phoenix, Arizona, and was studying theology. She was living comfortably as a woman, and was the 17th transgender person killed in the U.S. that year.
Capri's mother says that “Capri was at a lady’s apartment who she had been staying with for a couple weeks. And the only thing I know is that the car she had rented had been towed or something, or suspected of being towed away, so she left her apartment and was shot.” The autopsy report says that she was shot 3-4 times, but the investigation never revealed who committed the murder. Her mom thinks it was a hate crime, since Capri was transgender.
Was justice served?
Her killer was never caught. However, there was video surveillance found that could possibly help catch her killer. As of February 2021, justice has not been served.
