About
Darius Robinson was the father of seven children. He was 41 years old when he died in prison.
Darius Robinson was sentenced to prison on April 1, 2016 for not paying child support. Three days later, he died of positional asphyxia on April 4, 2016. Reports say that jail staff entered Darius' cell after he allegedly became violent and agitated. Robinson was pronounced dead after a jail official used an illegal choke hold and strangled him to death while trying to restrain him. After being choked by the law enforcement official, Robinson did not receive adequate medical care and treatment.
Was justice served?
There was a lawsuit against Caddo County Jail, demanding $75,000,00.00 in damages and also requesting an end to unconstitutional jail operations and training policies at Caddo County. There was also a lawsuit including claims of deprivation of rights, survival act wrongful death, excessive force, inadequate training, supervision amounting to deliberate indifference, failure to give medical care, and procedures to withhold medical care. Sadly, the attorney general failed to achieve an indictment on any charge. On August 8, 2016, the grand jury made public that no charges will be filed against the staff but they did recommend that the jail training, policies, and procedures should be changed. This decision has been upsetting to Darius' family, friends, and other local civil rights leaders, and Black Lives Matter activists.
